By Jules Swain, The Reading Paramedic

The Reader on the 6.27

Jean-Paul Didierlaurent

£9.99 £9.49

My most recommended book. It reminds me that the world is beautiful, and it makes me cry every time I read it.

The Remains of the Day

Kazuo Ishiguro

£9.99 £9.49

If The Reader on the 6.27 didn't exist, this would be my favourite book ever.

The Crimson Petal And The White

Michel Faber

£10.99 £10.44

I am a huge fan of Michel Faber, but for me this is his most outstanding work. It's a whopper, but it's worth every page.

Fingersmith: A BBC 2 Between the Covers Book Club Pick - Booker Prize Shortlisted

Sarah Waters

£9.99 £9.49

I'd already read & loved The Paying Guests & became an immediate fan of Sarah Waters. I only read Fingersmith in December last year, and it floored me instantly. She is the Queen of "I didn't see that coming". Phenomenal!

The River Within

Karen Powell

£8.99 £8.54

The River Within is a book that was sent to me to review by the publisher, Europa Editions. If it hadn't been sent to me, I likely never would have read it. I'm so glad I did. A beautifully written book set in 1950s Yorkshire. It's a firm favourite & one I recommend often, especially as, to me, its never had the publicity it so truly deserves.

Jane Eyre (Vintage Classics Bronte Series)

Charlotte Bronte

The Goldfinch

Donna Tartt

£10.99 £10.44

The Secret History: From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Goldfinch

Donna Tartt

£9.99 £9.49

I only read The Secret History this year, after being a huge fan of The Goldfinch for a long time. It is superb!

Heart of Darkness

Joseph Conrad
