Tate’s disABILITY Network promotes the social model of disability. This model proposes that what makes someone disabled is not their medical condition but the attitudes and structures of society. As advocates, we in Tate Shops believe that social structures can be re-designed to include everyone's needs and that this will benefit everyone, and certainly lead to more and better art being produced and seen.

Many artists in Tate's collection and beyond have disabilities or are neuro-diverse. We not only seek to better support disabled artists but are also working to improve access to art, to institutions, and better connect with both disabled visitors and Tate staff.

This selection of books was created as part of an ongoing collaboration and exchange between Tate Shops and the Tate disABILTY network.
