Book can help children (and adults) to work out where they belong.  They can showcase relatable individuals and situations, and can generate empathy for people in positions they had never even considered.  Books really can be a 'window on the world', allowing for awareness of things we might never experience ourselves.  

Sharing books with children and having conversations can help broaden their understanding of the world and the people in it and, in turn, make them more resilient when life becomes tricky.
