A story is nothing without a memorable protagonist to lead it, and my favourite kind is one who must find strength and bravery within themselves to succeed. Whether it’s solving a mystery, facing a perilous quest or a dangerous enemy, mastering newfound powers, or standing up for what’s right, a great main character always has heart and holds a reader’s hand as they guide them through the story, letting us know that in the end, everything will be alright. When writing The Boy Who Fell From the Sky, I thought a lot about who I wanted my protagonist, Zed, to be. At the beginning, he doesn’t believe in himself and is simply doing what he can to make everybody else proud. But as the story goes on, he discovers what it means to be kind, empathetic and, above all else, brave. So, without further ado, here are my picks for incredible books with courageous main characters…
