Books Are My Bag Readers Awards 2024 - Winners
The Books Are My Bag Readers Awards are one of a kind. They're the only book awards curated by bookshops and chosen by readers.
Any booksellers in Booksellers Association membership can nominate titles. A panel of booksellers then curates the shortlist from the nominations. Our thanks to this year’s panel for their time and expertise:
- Jude Brosnan: Marketing Manager, Stanfords
- James Firth: co-owner of The Stripey Badger
- Elle Moyse: bookseller, Sevenoaks Bookshop
- Rachel Airey: Buying Manager for Children's Books WHSmith
- Lucy Jakes: Children’s Buyer, Waterstones
- Mariasanta Tedesco: Bookshop manager Blackwell's, Oxford
- Chris Walthorne: Senior Bookseller, Foyles Charing Cross Road
The awards include six shortlists (Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, Young Adult Fiction, Children’s Fiction, Breakthrough Author) which are chosen by booksellers, while the Readers' Choice Award – nominated and chosen entirely by readers – completes the set.
The shortlists were announced, and voting opened to the general public, on 10 October (the Thursday before Bookshop Day). The winners were announced at a ceremony at Foyles on Charing Cross Road on Tuesday 12 November.
The Books Are My Bag Readers Awards launched in 2016, in partnership with National Book Tokens, the headline sponsor of the awards. Additionally, the awards are sponsored by Hachette UK, Penguin Random House UK, HarperCollins Publishers, Pan Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, DK, Bloomsbury, Usborne, Scholastic, Faber & Faber, Bonnier Books UK, Chicken House, Profile Books, Walker Books, David Fickling, Ingram Content Group.
