Dyslexic Friendly Books for Kids
By Dyslexic Librarian

Books designed specifically for dyslexic kids and reluctant readers. These books are specifically designed to make reading easy, the publishers have thought about spacing, font, layout and paper colour to make the reading experience easier for dyslexic children. But I've also included books with good stories, which kids will enjoy.

The Unlucky Eleven
Phil Earle and Steve May
£6.99 £6.64My youngest has not been diagnosed with dyslexia, but has struggled in the past with reading and spelling (she's keeping us guessing at the moment). To help with her reading I purchased some books designed to be easier to read for reluctant readers, including this one. She's a massive sports fan and plays football and tennis, f Om my own experiences reading about things you love is a great way to engage in reading. In terms of typeface, page colour and overall format a lot of consideration has gone into designing these books and for my daughter it made a huge difference, there's also a lot of images to break up the page. The story is also really engaging and funny. About an unlucky football team who think they've been cursed, trying to break the curse makes everything worse! Until Stanley has to take a free kick... My daughter loved this and it was great that she felt really confident in retelling the story to us, which showed her understanding.

Grandpa Bert and the Ghost Snatchers
Malorie Blackman and Melanie Demmer
£6.99 £6.64This is another book I purchased for my youngest last year, she was 7 at the time. This is a really funny story about Grandma Gertie who is visiting her grandchildren Anna and Kasper from Barbados. She is quite a peculiar character who carries a real parrot on her head and the ghost of her dead husband on her luggage! The family are forced to become detectives when Grandpa Bert is nearly snatched by ghost snatchers. My daughter loved this book, Mallorie Blackman is an acclaimed written and her inclusion in the Little Gem series is a real treat for readers. The story is fast paced and really entertaining. The book has the usual features for dyslexic readers, where font, paper colour, print size and layout has all been considered. This book also has great colour images. Would highly recommend this to all young readers not just those who are dyslexic

Clever Cakes
Michael Rosen and Ashley King
£6.99 £6.64Ages 5-8 I loveichael Rosen and it's great that so many well known authors, and it features a bear. This book tells the story of two young kids who are on the run from a hungry grizzly bear! But two children have a cunning plan to get out of the sticky situation
