Holly Williams Recommends......
By The Rabbit Hole

Each month we'll be asking an author to recommend a few of their favourite reads.
This month, we've asked debut novelist, Holly Williams, author of Emma's book recommendation of the month, What Time Is Love?
Holly Williams is a journalist and worked for The Independent for six years. She is currently a theatre critic for Time Out and The Mail on Sunday, and a book reviewer for The Observer and The TLS. She was born in Wales and currently lives in Sheffield. What Time Is Love? is her first novel.
"I could have chosen innumerable versions of this list – but I hope this selection covers good ground. In fiction, I’ve included my classic, if boundary-pushing, favourite (Mrs Dalloway) alongside recent hits (Sorrow and Bliss, Careering) and a big, juicy series to get lost in (Elizabeth Jane Howard’s wartime family saga). Chilean writer Paulina Flores’s razor-sharp short stories deserve to be better-known, while I only recently fell in love with Anne Carson’s first collection, thanks to ‘The Glass Essay’ - a long poem brilliantly haunted by the Brontës. Layla F Saad’s workbook is an essential anti-racism read, while in non-fiction, Geoff Dyer, Ali Smith, and Maggie Nelson are my favourite genre-busting guides for seeing art and literature, language and love with fresh eyes."

What Time is Love?: The captivating and gorgeously romantic debut you'll fall head over heels for in 2023

£14.99 £14.24Emma's Book of the Month - I thought this would be a lovely easy going romance. And while there is romance, it's so much more. A couple, the same couple meet in three different decades. 1947, 1967 and 1987. They are always twenty when they first meet, and they are always drawn to one another. But the way in which their relationship unfolds is dictated by the time in which they're living. A fascinating read of the way in which the time we live in can alter the course of our lives. This is romance with a harsh bite of reality.
