Inclusive Books for Children: Top Picks for Indie Bookshops
Inclusive Books for Children is a new charity. They exist to make inclusive books mainstream. At IBC, they spotlight authors and illustrators of inclusive children's books and run the annual IBC Awards, which recognise the best new inclusive children's books published in the UK.
As well as highlighting creatives and their work, their recommendations help families easily choose books for a more inclusive bookshelf. They showcase stories that represent all types of family and don't draw on gender stereotypes or negative tropes. They feature books with a variety of ethnicities, positive images of disabilities and different identities, and celebrate Own-Voice authors and illustrators.
We are happy to share the first selection of recommendations from IBC that they think are great for Indie Bookshops and will update more recommendations over the coming months.
