Marilyn Brocklehurst is a librarian at heart. She worked her way up through the Library Service before leaving to set up her ideal bookshop - the Norfolk Children's Book Centre. Through the Centre she freely dispenses her unquenchable enthusiasm for books and reading. With over 60,000 personally selected books on display at the Centre and with her huge knowledge base she is called on to help in many ways e.g. with school library improvement, National conference support, the judging of National book awards and with book reviews for The Bookseller, The Guardian and others. In recognition of her life-long enthusiasm for children's reading, in February 2016 she was invited to become a Fellow of the English Association.

Our favourite reference book this year has got to be The All New Children’s Encyclopedia. Every child from nine to twelve would benefit from owning this browsable and fascinating tome - it has 424 pages of stuff you didn’t know you didn’t know. The pages are packed with interesting facts and informative illustrations about mummies, the brain, space, philosophy, history and so much else. It’s written by experts, and edited by the genius that is Christopher Lloyd. It would make a great family Christmas present.

The author has written a very personal exploration of our wonderful country, meandering at a leisure place from town to town discovering a variety of fascinating places along the way - and of course visiting wonderful bookshops, and their often quirky and eccentric owners (ahem!) I’ve already planned my first adventure using this delightful book.
