£20.00 £19.00About the cover artist: Hiroyuki Izutsu (Sputnik Sweetheart) is an illustrator based in Tokyo, Japan. He was born in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, near the sea. After graduating from high school, he studied animation and later became an illustrator. Although he mainly worked in advertising, he started working in the publishing world after drawing a bestselling book cover. His main motifs are people, landscapes and flowers. The painting materials are opaque watercolour, Adobe Fresco and Adobe Photoshop. He was invited onto the Global Artist Committee of Asian Art Association in August 2022 and is a lecturer at 'Illustration Aoyama Juku' in Tokyo as well as a part-time lecturer at Yokohama University of Art and Design.

Originally majoring in Biology, he switched to an art career after graduating with distinction from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California. Tatsuro began illustrating children's books, eventually branching into editorial work for magazines, book jacket illustrations, and advertising commissions. Tatsuro’s first picture book, The Lotus Seed (text by Sherry Garland / Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), has sold more than 200,000 copies worldwide. He has also worked with clients such as Royal Mail and Starbucks. He is the studio owner of Pen Still Writes, a member of the Tokyo Illustrators Society, and teaches illustration at Aoyama Juku. Tatsuro excels at conveying a sense of atmosphere and ideas in a visible form. He provides highly finished illustrations on a wide range of subjects while maintaining his unique worldview. He is a Shiba Inu lover!

His illustrations are evocative of the work of Edward Hopper or Saul Leiter. Nostalgia was a key element of Norwegian Wood and the brief asked that the visual should evoke the sense of place, loneliness and reflection. Takeshi took care to create a scene where the shapes of the buildings look like a Japanese alley from the 60s.
