Palestinian Women: Identity and Experience

This collection of writings by Palestinian women illustrates the realities of their lives and their involvement in social and political activities, both before and during the Intifada. A broad cross-over of women is represented: teenage girls, women young and old, professional women, women active in political organizations, in the trade union movement, in the arts, women who have lived all their lives in the area, and women brought up in Europe. The moving contributions draw on research and personal accounts. They cover the history of women's experience, health, working conditions and trade union activity, art and literature, the popular committees, the curfew, military occupation, deportations and bereavement. Yet all bear witness to the women's courage and determination to work towards a peaceful solution.
