Freedom is never free. Emel and Saalim are both finally free, but their freedom came at a cost: Emel's freeing wish caused Saalim to lose any memory of her. Now remembering his life before he was a jinni, Saalim crosses the desert to Madinat Almulihi to reclaim his royal seat and seek revenge on those who killed his family. Emel follows, but life in the mysterious seaside city is not how Emel imagined it would be. Far from her desert tent and far from Saalim, the comforts of her past life as an ahira and the pull of finding happiness elsewhere tempts Emel away from the life she dreamed of.
