Carmina Gadelica's name derives from an outstanding collection of folklore, poems, proverbs, psalms, prayers and incantations in the Scottish Gaelic language, which was originally published in 1900 by Alexander Carmichael. 'Carmina Gadelica', a Latin name, can be translated into Gaelic as 'Ortha nan Gaidheal', or into English as 'the song of the Gael'.
We have an extensive selection of Hebridean, Gaelic and bestselling books in our shop. While, in the past, our stock has predominantly been our own Hebridean literature, in recent years we have regularly replenished our shelves with popular titles, from fiction (contemporary, historical, thriller, classics, fantasy & sci-fi etc), to natural history and outdoor walking books, poetry books, children's books, graphic novels, self-help books and more.
Carmina Gadelica can be found on Bank Street in Portree, the Isle of Skye's capital.
