I was born during the Troubles in a small Northern Irish town a few miles from the border between what I was told was the ‘Free’ State and the ‘United’ Kingdom. I grew up in the most bombed small town in Europe post second world war and went to school in an area that had the highest unemployment rate anywhere in the industrially developed world. Reading books has always been a form of escape for me, from my early days whizzing about with Meg & Mog, right though to more recent ambling along with Olive Kitteridge.
My debut novel Big Girl, Small Town was shortlisted for the Comedy Women In Print award and an Irish Book Award. The audiobook and abridged BBC Sounds series were voiced by the marvellous Nicola Coughlan. Big Girl Small Town is being adapted for television by Lookout Point.
My bookshop contains just some of the many books I’ve read and loved over the years. It’s a work in progress, but I hope you enjoy browsing ❤️
