Novelist and playwright Sebastian Barry was born in Dublin in 1955. He is the first novelist to win the Costa Book of the Year award twice, for Days Without End and The Secret Scripture, and has twice been shortlisted for the Booker Prize. He won the Walter Scott Prize twice and an Indie Book Award twice. Other awards include the James Tait Black Prize, the Irish Novel of the Year Award, the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award (for A Long Long Way) and numerous awards for his plays, including an Olivier Award nomination. He was made Laureate for Irish Fiction, 2018-2021. He lives in County Wicklow, Ireland with his wife Ali, and four dogs.
