The Stripey Badger Bookshop

The Stripey Badger Bookshop, Coffee Shop and Kitchen is located in the beautiful village of Grassington, the beating heart of the Yorkshire Dales and home to the fictional market town of Darrowby in the new series of All Creatures Great & Small.  

Opened in August 2018 by Linda, who has had a lifetime ambition to run a bookshop, supported by son James and since November, joined by Lyndsey. The Stripey Badger stocks books of all genres for adults and children, as well as book-related gifts and cards, Yorkshire maps and guide books for the visitor and Grassington souvenirs.  

Next door to the bookshop, Linda's sister Jackie runs the coffee shop & kitchen.  Yorkshire hospitality at its best!

James' speciality is Science, Sci-Fi and Fantasy and you will see our shelves very well-stocked with these titles.  Linda's is history and natural history and her bookshelves are similarly groaning under the weight of beautiful books.  Both love childrens' books and are avid readers of them - and very happy to recommend suitable books for your family!

The filming of All Creatures Great & Small in 2020, 2021 and 2022 used Grassington as the location for 'Darrowby' with the bookshop featuring as grocers G F Endleby, and the coffee shop & kitchen being transformed into a private house, behind whose doors the actors and crew assembled in between takes.  Of course we have a full stock of the wonderful James Herriot books on our shelves!
