Hey, funky monkeys,
You love books, I love books, who doesn’t love books!?!
I’m a big fan of helping small and independent bookshops and this is a great way to do just that ... I spent hours (probably days) in my local bookshops as a kid and they’re a big part of why I love books and ultimately decided to write my own. I think Bookshop.org is, in some ways, a little bit like the 21st century version of that local, childhood bookshop you still remember, but without the ‘old book smell’, and you‘re not going to get told off for endlessly browsing for hours each weekend instead of buying something. To be fair, I did usually buy them but these things can’t be rushed, can they?
I‘m a biologist, conservationist and science broadcaster. I very proudly work at the University of East Anglia, where I am Professor of Evolutionary Biology and Science Engagement. I have presented a weird and wonderful mix of TV series, from ‘Baby Chimp Rescue’ on BBC2, ‘Secrets of Skin’ and ‘Secrets of Bones’ on BBC4 and alongside the one and only Sir David Attenborough in ‘Attenborough and the Giant Dinosaur’ on BBC1 (and yes, he's just as awesome as you imagine he is). I have also presented the series ‘A Grown Up Guide to Dinosaurs’ and ‘A Grown Up Guide to Oceans’ for Audible. I have worked for many years with wild and captive primates, living with wild chimpanzees in northwestern Uganda, helping protect critically endangered Sumatran orang-utans in Indonesia, and studying the evolutionary history of introduced monkeys in the Caribbean.
All my books are written to share the passion and wonder I have for science and the natural world with the largest audience possible, whether you’re three or 103.
