Who we are:
We are a collective of writers, activists, educators, creatives and healers who want to open a bookshop, events and social space.
We want a place for bookish people who share our vision to live in a world where Black women, femmes, girls and non-binary people can thrive; and are free to be joyful, whole and at peace.
We use the power of Black feminist literature to imagine new and exciting futures.
We recognise, opening a Black feminist bookshop is a bold and ambitious project, but we believe bringing people together around Black feminist knowledge will help to nurture and spread ideas for radical social change.
What we do:
The Black Feminist Bookshop is a healing and liberatory space for Black women, femmes, girls and nonbinary people.
We run monthly reading groups and writing workshops for Black women, femmes, girls and nonbinary people, as well as a wider programme of events for everyone, with an emphasis on Black feminist theory and practice, that seeks to respect and understand the variety of our identities.
Through our popups and online, we sell Black feminist literature, texts written by queer/LGBTQIA+ people of colour, women of colour and other historically marginalised voices - books written by under-told and underrepresented authors.
How you can help:
We fund our work through book sales, events, donations and memberships. If you want to support us and our vision, buy books through our affiliate Bookshop.org store, join our Patreon community, sign up to our mailing list and purchase tickets for our events. If you want to make a substantial or one-off financial contribution, email us at [email protected]
We are a work in progress. Help us grow.
