Christine Burns MBE has campaigned for over thirty years for the civil rights of transgender people, and has been involved with the trans community for more than forty. She has worked as an equalities consultant, helped to put together new employment legislation and the Gender Recognition Act, and wrote the first ever official guidance about trans people for the Department of Health (Trans: A Practical Guide for the NHS, 2007). Christine has also written extensively about transgender history in Britain. Her two volume eBook work ‘Pressing Matters’ (2013,14) was an insider account of the lobby campaign which led to the passage of the Gender Recognition Act in 2004. Her latest book, ‘Trans Britain’ (Unbound, 2018), an edited anthology of eye-witness accounts, describes the historical journey of trans people over more than a century.
