October Books is Southampton's main independent bookshop, with radical roots. We are a co-operative and a community bookshop and we have been serving our community here since 1977. We pride ourselves in a selection of books that challenge the status quo and that promote social, environmental and financial equailty and justice. Some of our selections appear in our lists below. We have a busy and eclectic events programme (currently online) where we host author talks, have book launches and have conversation with our local communities. We also have an extensive catalogue of secondhand and out of print titles which fit with our values and ethos. These can be found and searched in our online Biblio catalogue here

As well as books we also sell a range of vegetarian, vegan, organic and Fairtrade food products and personal and household cleaning products as well as cards, diaries and notebooks. You can order these from our website here.

We also have a community space used for our workers and members meetings (when government guidelines allow) and which we hire out to a wide range of community groups and organisations, from pop-up vegan cafes to yoga classes. Our community helped us to purchase this and our shop space and helped us to raise the £500,000 needed for the purchase and renovations. They also helped us move premises with our intenationally famous Human Chain. We are extremely lucky to be supported by our local community in all that we do and we hope that this online platform helps us to reach a wider community
