The Book Stop
We are a charitable community benefit society which was set up to open a community bookshop in the heart of St Helens offering something for everyone!
Following a successful community share issue which closed at the beginning of 2021, we raised £45,000 from over 350 investors. This amount was matched £ for £ by the Community Shares Booster Programme and we also secured funding from the Steve Morgan Foundation to cover the bookshop manager's salary for the first three years. The funds raised were then used to set up and run our shop which is located at 11 Bridge Street, St Helens WA10 1NN and which opened its doors for business on Friday 26 November 2021
We sell a wide range of new books, both fiction and non fiction, but also are trying to create a thriving community hub at which everyone feels welcome. There is a refreshment area run by Two Brothers Coffee selling tea, coffee and snacks and we will be hosting a wide range of events, including children's reading groups, book clubs and author signings.
Our bookshop is owned by the community, is run by the community and most importantly it exists for the benefit of the community. Our membership is once again open and if you would like to become a shareholder just go to www.sthelensbookstop.co.uk/membership/ and download the forms. We would also love to see as many of you as possible in the shop in person if you can make it. If not, you can still support us by purchasing your books through this page in which case we will receive a commission from bookshop.org
