WORD ON THE STREET BOOKSHOP

Word on the Street is a brand new independent bookshop situated in the heart of Ashtead in Surrey.  Seven of us, who all live in Ashtead, are passionate about reading and couldn't wait to share our love of books.  We are now embracing our new roles as booksellers and hoping to create a community asset that will encourage reading for the whole village in a warm and welcoming space.  

It is a general bookshop and we have taken much time in curating our stock and hope we will bring all our customers an original and diverse selection of books across most genres.  

We marked our launch around World Book Day and worked with local primary schools to engage pupils and encourage their reading by running a competition.  The youngest children designed the most wonderful bookmarks and the older children were asked to write book reviews of their favourite books with winners receiving book tokens to spend in the shop. 

As we become more established we also hope to develop our links with both schools and the community by organising a variety of events including childrens' visits and author events.
